Three Days on the Sand

What a series. We had three wonderful days on the sand here in Bandon, Oregon, July 2-4th, drawing labyrinths at Face Rock Wayside and soaking up everything this stretch of coast has to offer.
One of the small gifts of this particular series was the sand itself. We had enough of it in just the right places to tuck our labyrinths in behind Cathedral Rock, which gave everyone a bit of a break from the strong winds on two of the three days. Anyone who has walked with us on a blustery day knows what a difference that makes. It is a small detail, but it shapes the whole experience of the walk.
None of this happens without our volunteers. Rain or shine, wind or calm, they show up to assist in the parking lot or to rake, and this series was no exception. The labyrinths that came out of these three days were some of the most interesting patterns we have drawn in a while.
A Reminder About What We Draw
We get asked about this often, so it feels worth repeating here. Our labyrinths are not mazes. There is a single path with one entrance and one exit, so there is nothing to solve and no wrong turns to worry about. You simply walk in, follow the path, and walk to the exit. The idea is to give people a peaceful walk, not a puzzle. Even though these are nontraditional labyrinths, drawn freehand in the sand rather than set in stone or brick, they still follow the sacred geometry found in traditional labyrinths. That underlying structure is part of what makes the walk feel the way it does. Whatever you carry onto the sand with you, whether that is a question, a worry, a wish, or love, the path is there to hold that space for you.
What's Next
Our next draw series is July 16, 17, and 18, 2026. As always, you can find our full summer schedule of walk dates and times on our website at sandypathbandon.com.
See you on the sand.
