Spotlight on Team Member Jim Upton

Jim is our newest Ambassador and the quiet guy behind the scenes. He started volunteering as a groomer which lead to joining he team, which makes sense since his wife Cathy was already an Ambassador. When I first met Jim he would periodically come to walk Circles on days when Cathy was grooming. Eventually, the creativity of the labyrinths drew him in and he decided to join the fun. He is now the guy who shows up to groom and needs little direction. Jim takes on the more challenging, intricate raking tasks without complaints. He can ascertain what areas need attention and in which order so that new volunteer groomers can learn the ropes without stress. Jim loves the shared experience of Circles in the Sand with his wife and the rest of the team.

We are lucky to have Jim volunteer with us as often as he does since he is also very active in the Bandon community. It's not unusual for Jim to groom in the morning and then dash off to another commitment in town.

Jim's artistic talents flourish off the sand as well. When he is not with the team he can be found at his potters wheel, tending to his lush gardens, cooking special dinners, or building impromptu driftwood structures on the beach near his home. He also knows a thing or two about how to relax and find time to take naps in the sun.

Join us in wishing Jim a Happy Birthday today!
