World Labyrinth Day is Saturday, May 6 and we will be celebrating on and off the beach. Circles in the Sand is all about labyrinth walking and we are excited that World Labyrinth Day coincides with the first day of a three-day draw series. As a reminder, it is always a good idea this time of year to keep a weather eye for rain. There is moisture in the forecast for Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. We will cancel a draw if it is raining when we arrive in the morning. We were treated to blue skies on Tuesday and the flowers on the cliff were in full bloom. Let's hope we see the sun again in the mornings this weekend.
World Labyrinth Day is an international event held on the first Saturday of each May, sponsored by The Labyrinth Society in collaboration with partner organizations including the Australian Labyrinth Network, Legacy Labyrinth Project, and Veriditas. Many participants will “Walk as One at 1” by walking a labyrinth at 1:00 PM local time to create a rolling wave of peaceful energy passing from one time zone to the next around the globe.
Our Circles in the Sand walk begins at 9 AM (because it will be pushing high tide at 1:00 PM). Our themes will be Love and Peace.
After you walk the sandy labyrinth you can join Bethe for an indoor canvas labyrinth walk at 1 PM at The Overlook at The Inn at Face Rock, 3225 Beach Loop Dr. in Bandon, Oregon. The Santa Rosa canvas is set up and already infusing The Overlook with healthy, joyful vibes. There will be a brief World Labyrinth Day introduction at 12:45 PM and then the canvas will be available to walk from 1:00 – 2:00 PM. Generally, it takes 10-15 minutes to walk the labyrinth. Whether you are familiar with labyrinths or new to the experience, all are welcome to this free event. More information about labyrinths and finger labyrinths will be available.
Labyrinth walkers may also choose to participate in the third annual Big Connection research project, the first global humanity research experiment utilizing the labyrinth and asking the question, “What is the impact of walking labyrinths collectively with heart-centered intention and the impact that it has for ourselves and our planet?” Labyrinth Activism is a term that has emerged from prior studies in 2021 and 2022. This year the researchers are further exploring the process of labyrinth activism, how to initiate it, and asking participants to record their experiences. More information can be found at https://www.worldlabyrinthday.org/home or https://www.legacylabyrinthproject.org/
If you are in Bandon on May 6th you are invited to walk with us outside on the sand and indoors on the canvas labyrinth. If you can’t join us but want to participate in World Labyrinth Day we encourage you to find a World Labyrinth Day event or permanent labyrinth near you. Labyrinth Locator, https://labyrinthlocator.com/ is a great resource and lists over 6,000 labyrinths worldwide. If mobility is a concern then using a finger labyrinth is a great option. Find a labyrinth and take part in this global peace experience.
See you on the sand and on the Santa Rosa canvas.
