Paths of Connection: Circles in the Sand 2025 Season Recap

ree

As the summer season draws to a close, we pause to reflect on the months of drawing, walking, and connecting that made up another year of Circles in the Sand. Each day on the beach carried its own story — moments shaped by tides, light, wind, and the footprints of those who came to walk.

We began this season with a month of construction in the parking lot, a reminder that even access to beauty sometimes requires patience. The result was worth the wait: a more efficient parking layout, new bathrooms, a shuttle drop-off/pick-up location, and improved accessibility within the lot itself. These changes make it easier for everyone to arrive and feel welcome.

The weather painted the season in shifting hues. There were sunlit days when the ocean shimmered, wild and windy mornings that tested our grip on hats and rakes, and quiet, fog-wrapped mornings when the labyrinths felt otherworldly. A few draws were lost to rain, but whenever the skies allowed, we raked our paths in the sand and cherished every moment we could.

Our volunteer parking greeters were the first warm faces many visitors saw. This year, they went above and beyond, offering guidance, smiles, and a sense of belonging before anyone even set foot on the beach. Their generosity of spirit rippled through each gathering, and for that we are deeply grateful.

Yesterday, Denny stood on the sand and shared that he will be passing the torch next year. While his role will change, his presence will remain. He will shift to leading workshops and offering lectures, sharing the depth of his knowledge and the heart of his vision. His artistry has touched countless lives, and his next chapter will carry that light forward in new ways.

Looking ahead, we are especially excited for our annual draw at Heceta Beach in Florence, Oregon, on October 18th-19th, 2025. Plans for next year’s season are already in motion, as we imagine new paths to walk and new moments to share.

To all who raked beside us and all who walked the labyrinths, we offer our gratitude. You are part of the living pattern we create together. Above all, we draw these labyrinths to share love, show love, and be love.
